Ethical Guidelines

I. General Provisions
1. The purpose of these Guidelines is to present the basic principles and directions regarding the roles and responsibilities necessary to prevent research misconduct and to ensure research ethics for researchers submitting manuscripts to Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research.
2. Researchers shall faithfully fulfill their responsibilities so that issues such as fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, inappropriate authorship, and duplicate publication do not arise. In the event that such issues occur, they may be subject to disadvantages and other necessary measures in accordance with these Guidelines.
II. Scope of Research Misconduct
Research misconduct refers to fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, inappropriate authorship, and other such acts that may occur in the proposal, conduct, reporting, and publication of research and development activities. The definitions are as follows:
1. Fabrication: The act of creating false data, research results, or other information that does not actually exist.
2. Falsification: The act of distorting research content or results by artificially manipulating research materials, equipment, or processes, or by arbitrarily modifying or deleting data.
3. Plagiarism: The act of appropriating another person’s ideas, research content, or research results without proper approval or citation.
4. Inappropriate authorship: The act of denying authorship, without justifiable reason, to a person who has contributed to the research content or results, or of granting authorship to a person who has not contributed, for reasons such as acknowledgment, courtesy, or preferential treatment.
5. Multiple publication and redundant publication: Multiple publication refers to the act of publishing the same manuscript in two or more different journals. “The same content” means that more than 50% of the materials (or subjects) and methods are identical. Redundant publication refers to the act of republishing, as an original article in another journal, content that has already been published in a journal. This must be distinguished from secondary publication.
<Reference> Secondary publication means publishing the same manuscript in two or more different journals under the following conditions, and this is generally not considered research misconduct:
1) The editors of both journals must provide written consent, and the editor of the secondary journal must review the paper published in the primary journal.
2) The secondary publication must state that it is a secondary publication and clearly identify the original source (the primary journal).
3) The content and conclusions must be the same, and the second paper should preferably be an abridged version.
4) The readership of the two journals must differ, and the publication date of the secondary journal must be at least one week later than that of the primary journal.
5) The authors of both papers must be identical.
III. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Research Ethics
1. AI is not eligible for authorship: Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot be recognized as an author or co-author of a manuscript, because it cannot serve as the subject of originality, interpretation, judgment, or responsibility in research.
2. Ensuring transparency in AI use: If a researcher uses AI in the research process, including manuscript writing, data analysis, translation, editing, or image generation, the fact and scope of such use must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript. Failure to disclose or false disclosure of AI use may be regarded as a violation of research ethics.
3. Verification and accountability of human authors: The final responsibility for reviewing and verifying all content generated by or assisted by AI rests with the author. Authors must verify the accuracy, reliability, ethical propriety, and possible copyright infringement of AI-generated information, and they bear full responsibility for the content and results of the manuscript. In addition, reviewers are responsible for examining whether AI-assisted research satisfies academic validity and complies with research ethics.
IV. Pledge to Comply with the Ethical Guidelines
To verify compliance with the research ethics regulations, agreement to the research ethics pledge shall be mandatory at the time of manuscript submission.
1. Submission to Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research is not permitted unless the author completes the pledge agreement procedure affirming that “there are no violations of research ethics whatsoever” at the time of manuscript submission.
2. Authors submitting to Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research, including peer reviewers, shall, when they become aware that another submitting author has violated these Guidelines, make efforts to correct the problem by reminding the author concerned of these Ethical Guidelines.
3. To prevent research misconduct by submitting authors, Korean-language manuscripts shall be accompanied, at the time of submission, by the “KCI Comprehensive Similarity Check Report.” English-language manuscripts shall be accompanied by an equivalent similarity-check report.

| In requesting publication of the above manuscript in Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research (the journal), I/we confirm that I/we have fully read and understood the following matters, and hereby agree to them by the signature of the corresponding author. |
| 1. I/We confirm that this manuscript is original and does not infringe upon the copyright of any other work. 2. The author(s) have made actual and intellectual contributions to this manuscript and jointly take responsibility for its content. 3. This manuscript has never been published before, has not been submitted elsewhere for publication, and is not planned to be submitted to another journal. 4. The author(s) pledge to comply with the Ethical Guidelines and to take responsibility for any disadvantages incurred by Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research in connection with this manuscript. 5. The publisher of this journal has the right to object to copyright infringement committed by any third party without the permission of the author(s) or the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research Institute. 6. If this manuscript is published in Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research, all rights, interests, copyright, and digital copyright pertaining to the manuscript shall be jointly owned by Kukkiwon and the author(s). However, when Kukkiwon uses the manuscript, the author(s) delegate the right of use to the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research Institute. 7. The co-author(s) have also read and understood the above contents and confirm their agreement. |
V. Sanctions for Violations of the Ethical Guidelines
The following sanctions may be imposed, depending on the seriousness of the case, on authors who violate the Ethical Guidelines of Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research through research misconduct.
1. In the event of a first violation of the Ethical Guidelines
1) Issuance of an official warning letter
2) Temporary prohibition from submitting to Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research (the period shall be determined according to the seriousness of the case)
2. In the event of a second or subsequent violation of the Ethical Guidelines
1) Permanent prohibition from submitting to Kukkiwon Taekwondo Research
2) Disclosure of the manuscript title and the author’s name on the Kukkiwon website
